Hole Saw Tutorial for PC Modders
I'm having trouble with a hole saw?
I'm using a 1-5/8" hole saw in my drill press, I have the drill press running @ around 800 rpm's. What's happening is the teeth of the hole saw fill up when I get about 1/4 of the way into the wood and instead of cutting the wood,it's burning it. I have to stop and clean out the teeth. At this rate, it'll take me a 1/2 hour to cut 8 holes. I can't put wax on the hole saw because I'm going paint the wood with a latex paint. Any suggestions??
Mark the surface with the saw and then make an additional hole all the way through with a 3/8 or larger bit that will be along the cutting path of the hole saw. As the saw passes over the hole, the sawdust will fall through.
Do this right and you'll burn right through like you're using a spade bit.
And 800 RPM is probably too fast. If you don't care about wearing out the hole saw then nevermind this, but if you want it to last then slow down a bit.
